Furry pillow
Furry pillow

When I started this design journey my end result was always to release a pattern in all the languages I’ve available on the webpage. But as I started writing it kinda dawned on me… what am I going to charge for the pattern? How many patterns do I have to sell in order to gain profit, after paying for translation?

I’m telling you, it ain’t worth it. Not for me or even for you paying for the pattern, it’s just to simple and short.
Scrappy yarn

Design progress

So this is my solution, if you wouldn’t be able to figure out how I go around to make #furryneckwarmer. You can use the FREE pattern available a little further down in my blog.

And instead I encourage you to support me in other ways, like buying some yarn for your project or maybe another pattern in the webshop.

Scrappy yarn

Here is the pattern for FURRY PILLOW:

Size guide

2 sizes 50/50 or 40/60

Material

Organic merino Aran from Thelma Steimann, the yarn is 100% Organic merino wool. Approx 166m/100g in each skein. Wonderful and soft base to work with.

Organic Aran : 2 // or other suitable yarn that fits needle size 7 mm. The Aran yarn is also a good twist to add with the scrappy yarns

Scrappy yarns : 3 - 5 kg approximately

Circular needle 7 mm in 60/80/100 cm

Crochet needle nr. 3 or 4 for the scrappy yarns

Good to know

The pillow is knitted back and forth with garter stitch. Garter stitch is when both sides are knitted. The fringes are crocheted afterwards, cut down your scraps in 12-16 cm length to crochet on to your pillow. When the scrappy yarns have been crocheted on your pillow, you can adjust the “fur” a little bit by giving it a little cut.

The pillow can be knitted in any yarn in similar thickness as Organic Aran and the tension gauge isn't necessarily something to be very focused on, the pillowcase should be stretched out to fit the size of the pillow you are knitting for. The fur adds some weight to your knitted square and therefore it’s important for the pillowcase to be smaller than the actual pillow size and the pillowcase sits tightly around your pillow.

Be playful with your scraps when crocheting them on. This could be a very fun beginners project and a great way to make use of the small cut offs and scraps from other knitting projects.

Scrappy yarn

This is it !

If you feel like you are not feeling inspired for how to mix and match your scraps onto your pillow and if you are located in Copenhagen on the 04.04 I encourage you to book tickets to Strikkeklubben. The evening theme is fringes / fur and how to add them on. I’m perfectly aware that how they are added on is not the biggest challenge, but the placement in order to create some asymmetrical prints, how to mix and match the scraps in order for you pillow / or your neck warmer to look as pretty as possible. So make sure to book your tickets online and in good time as the seating is limited.

And if you go for the Furry pillow, please remember to hashtag #furrypillow on social media.
