The measurements are based on the size of the cardigan before washing ; the cardigan might increase in cm when washed, depending on the way it’s washed. The fit of the cardigan is supposed to be tight fitted. The cardigan gives approximately 30 - 40 cm negative ease when worn. 82 cm bust measurement can fit bust size 108 for example. The sleeves are extra long and the body is cropped.
Level : Knit and purl, increase and decrease, knit in round, german edge stitch & yarn over to create button holes.
Material
Hand dyed mulberry silk from Thelma Steimann. The silk has a super soft quality, it’s fantastic yarn to work with and leaves a shiny and airy feeling to the garment. Approx 400m/100g in each skein.
Mulberry silk : 3 (3) 3 (3) 4 (4)
Circular needle 3 mm in 40 & 80 cm for body and sleeves
5 x DPN 3 mm for sleeves (not necessary if you use the magic loop technique)
Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends
8 stitch markers
2 x keeping cords for resting stitches
3 x buttons 18 mm
Tension gauge swatch
Make sure to check your tension by creating a gauge swatch before starting your knit. Cast on 27 stitches and knit 38 rows in ; k 3 sts, p 3 sts* with 3 mm needles, wash and block the sample for a 10 x 10 cm swatch. Everyone’s tension is different, so if your tension is too tight and your gauge swatch measures too little, change to a thicker needle. If your tension is too loose and your gauge swatch is too wide, change to a thinner needle.
Good to know
The cardigan is knitted top down from back and forth for the most parts. The sleeves are separated from the body after the yoke has been knitted with increase. The sleeves are knitted in round from the with decrease. The body is knitted with an additional increase on the sides. The button holes are knitted on the body. The peplum is knitted by increasing around the rib.
The yarn quantity required is based on the average, and is therefore an approximate number.
