Circular needle 4 mm in 40/60/80 cm

Circular needle 3,5 mm in 40/60 cm for hem- and neckline

5x DPN 3,5 & 4 mm for sleeves (mostly for the smaller sizes) & cuffs (unless the Magic loop techinique is used)

Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends

10 x stitch markers

2 x large stitch holders or scrap yarn

Tension gauge swatch

Make sure to check your tension by creating a gauge swatch before starting your knit.

Gauge:  21 stitches and 29 rows in height with stockinette with 4 mm needles for a 10 x 10 cm swatch.

Everyone’s tension is different, so if your tension is too tight and your gauge swatch measures too little, change to a thicker needle. If your tension is too loose and your gauge swatch is too wide, change to a thinner needle.

Check guidelines for fair isle print work in good to know.

Good to know

The sweater is knitted top down in round for the most parts. The neckline is knitted back and forth, connected by the chest on the front side and knitted in round from there. The sleeves are separated from the body. Stitches are picked up from the cast on, to knit the neckline. The neckline is a rib where the stitches are bound off together with the stiches picked up from the first round (making the neckline double in thickness).

The print for the fair isle on the sleeves is knitted with 2 colors at the same time. Some knitters struggle with keeping the tension right when working with 2 threads at the time. Change over to a bigger needle for the sleeves, if you have difficulties with working the fair isle, a needle size 4,5 mm could do the trick. I also recommend changing over to a circular needle 40 cm, even though it feels impossible to work the circle, the stretching to close the circle does often help with the tension and leaves out a perfectly worked print with an even gauge.

Read the pattern through before you start your project.

It is very important to use hand dyed yarn in the print, it brings the pattern more to life and just adds the cherry on the top. For the maincolor I recommend you to alternate by working with two hanks at a time so the color blends more evenly in the project. When you knit with both hanks at the same time, you simply change them out in every other row. Here is a good example on how to do it if your are not familiar with the technique:
