Message from Thelma
This sweater is very dear to my heart and was created to be both playful and educational for children. There is intentionally no defined front or back, allowing the sweater to be worn both ways.
Each and every element has been carefully considered ; playing with textures, sensory details, and interactive trimming elements inspired by textile techniques, encouraging little ones to explore and learn through play.
As a designer, I hope these ideas translate into something memorable, not only for the child wearing the sweater, but also for the knitter creating it.
About the project
The sweater is worked top down in the round throughout the project. The yoke is worked with raglan increases and is separated at the underarms into sleeves and body. The sleeves are worked with decreases.
There are 3 different pockets on the sweater, all constructed differently. Stitches are placed on hold while knitting the sweater and are worked later to create the pockets.
There are 2 snakes worked using the i-cord technique. One snake is attached using snap buttons, while the other is threaded through small eyelet openings created throughout the body section.
The fringes are crocheted onto the sweater after all elements have been completed. The leftover yarn scraps from the fringes are used as filling for a small hidden friend placed inside one of the pockets.
Read through the entire pattern before starting the project.
