Hand-dyed mulberry silk from Thelma Steimann. This silk is very soft, wonderful to work with, and gives the finished garment a shiny, airy feel. Approx. 400 m / 100 g per skein.
Mulberry silk: 1 skein
Circular needle: 3 mm, 80–100 cm
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Stitch markers
Gauge swatch
Make sure to check your tension by making a gauge swatch before starting your project.
Cast on 30 sts using 3 mm needles. Work the first 3 rows as an edge: purl on WS rows and knit on RS rows.
Then work as follows, starting on the RS:
RS: K3 edge sts, *yo, k2tog* repeat from * to * until 3 sts remain, k3 edge sts.
WS: Purl all sts.
Repeat these RS and WS rows until you have worked 25 rows in total. Work the last 3 rows as an edge: purl on WS rows and knit on RS rows.
Wash and block the swatch. Measure a 10 x 10 cm area, excluding the edge sts.
Everyone’s tension is different. If your gauge is too tight and your swatch is too small, change to a larger needle. If your gauge is too loose and your swatch is too large, change to a smaller needle.
Gauge is not critical for this design. However, a different gauge will affect the finished measurements of the scarf. I recommend making a gauge swatch if you use a different yarn than the one recommended in the pattern. If you are using the recommended 400 m mulberry silk from Thelma Steimann, you may need to unravel the swatch, as the pattern uses almost the entire skein.
Good to know
The scarf is worked back and forth from bottom to top, with increases on both sides. The logo is worked by following a chart.
The yarn quantity is based on an average and is therefore approximate.
