The measurements are based on the sweater before washing.

Material

Classic Tanya

Tanya “light”

&

Wild alpaca : 1 (1) 1 (1) 1 (1)

The light Tanya is knitted with single thread Kid silk mohair. The sweater is knitted with a color where the yarn is dyed up 50/50, this dye technique creates this beautiful pooling effect when knitting (irregular stripes). When you are knitting with the yarn dyed with that technique, the colors change from one to the other. Pick either one of the colors to highlight and choose a color in Wild alpaca to knit it with. Every 3/4th time your selected color comes up, add Wild alpaca with it and stop when the color dyes out. You simply rub the Kid silk and the Wild together with your fingers until they stick together. The rib for cuffs, hemline & neckline are all knitted with double thread of Kid silk lace.

“Chunky” Tanya

Hand dyed Chunky baby alpaca, 100% baby alpaca wool from Thelma Steimann. Super soft and wonderful thread to work with. Each hank consists of 100 m in 100 gr.

Chunky baby : 6 (7) 7 (8) 8 (8)

Circular needles 40 and 80 / 100 cm in 6 mm for the sweater

Circular needles 40 and 80 / 100 cm in 5 mm for the rib

Tapestry needle to weave in the ends

Keeping cord or scrappy yarn to keep resting sts

Stitch markers

Tension gauge sample

Be sure to check your own tension before starting to knit. Cast on 14 stitches and knit 20 rows on needles size 6 mm for a 10 x 10 cm sample. If tension measures too tight, change to a thicker needle. If tension measures too wide, change to a thinner needle.

Good to know

Tanya sweater is beginners friendly project as the pattern doesn’t contain a lot of difficult techniques. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that Wild Alpaca can be more tricky to unravel and it can be complicated to see the errors if any.

The sweater is knitted top down in round for the most parts. The neckline is knitted back and forth, connected by the chest on the front side and knitted in round from there. The sleeves are separated from the body. Stitches are picked up from the cast on, to knit the neckline. The neckline is a rib where the stitches are bound off together with the stitches picked up from the first round (making the neckline double in thickness).

Read the pattern through before you start your project.

I recommend you to alternate by working with two hanks at a time so the color blends more evenly in the project. When you knit with both hanks at the same time, you simply change them out in every other row. Here is a good example on how to do it if you’re not familiar with the technique:
