Material

Organic merino Aran from Thelma Steimann, the yarn is 100% Organic merino wool. Approximately 166m/100g in each skein. Wonderful and soft base to work with.

ORGANIC ARAN: 5 (5) 6 (6) 6 (6)

Circular needle 5 mm in 40 & 80/100 cm

Circular needle 4,5 mm in 40 cm for hem- and neckline

Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends

Stitch markers

2 x keeping cords or scrap yarn

Tension gauge swatch

Make sure to check your tension by creating a gauge swatch before starting your knit. Gauge: 18 stitches and 23 rows in height with stockinette with 5 mm needles for a 10 x 10 cm swatch. Wash and block the sample. Everyone’s tension is different, so if your tension is too tight and your gauge swatch measures too little, change to a thicker needle. If your tension is too loose and your gauge swatch is too wide, change to a thinner needle.

Good to know

The sweater is knitted top down in round for the most parts. The neckline is knitted back and forth, connected by the chest on the front side and knitted in round from there. The sleeves are separated from the body. Stitches are picked up from the cast on, to knit the neckline. The dropped stitches are knitted according to diagrams, see how to work the diagram here:

There are few things to keep in mind when working with dropped stitches. The first thing is that you can’t change out the skeins right around where the stitches are going to be dropped. So make sure to switch out skeins somewhere else in the process.  Another thing is that Organic Aran is the perfect yarn for the project, as the hanks consist of 166 m yarns, so you are not changing out yarn too frequently during the project. The yarn is strong and durable for the dropped stitch effect. It is not recommended to add any type of lace yarn when making garments with the dropped stitch effect. Kid silk and Angel lace might rip where the stitches are dropped.

When knitting with hand dyed yarn I recommend you to alternate by working with two hanks at a time so the color blends more evenly in the project. When you knit with both hanks at the same time, you simply change them out in every other row. Here is a good example on how to do it if you’re not familiar with the technique:
